Corporations Clash: Elon Musk and Twitter versus Apple

Elon Musk is once again sending shockwaves through the corporate world, this time with an inflammatory tweet aimed at tech industry giant, Apple.

In a tweet, Elon Musk said: “Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?”

Putting aside the many, many, issues with Musk’s view of free speech, which should be paid for and never aimed at himself, there are a lot of flaws in that statement. Presumably, Musk’s attempt here is to get one of the biggest names marketing on the platform in line, but he’s not going about it well. “Free speech”, or rather the side effects of people thinking they can say whatever they want without consequence, is exactly why Apple and other marketers are not touching Twitter with a 10ft pole. And saying this with an antagonistic tone, no less, is not likely to rub Apple the right way.

As Social Media Today points out: “Attacking a key host platform, with a significant amount of Twitter users accessing the app via iOS, seems like a risky proposition, but it’s pretty much in line with Musk’s approach thus far, in seemingly throwing caution to the wind, and putting the entire business on the line, which will either pay off in the long run through improved operating conditions, or it’ll kill it entirely.”

Is Musk undoing the work we reported on just yesterday in releasing his report and roadmap for the future of Twitter?
