Discord CEO Jason Citron said: “We grew quickly and expanded our workforce even faster, increasing by 5x since 2020. As a result, we took on more projects and became less efficient in how we operated. Today, we are increasingly clear on the need to sharpen our focus and improve the way we work together to bring more agility to our organization. This is what largely drove the decision to reduce the size of our workforce.”
Unity
Unity is a gros-platform computer game development environment. This time, the company has reduced its workforce to 1,800 employees, explaining it as an attempt to improve its financial situation after a tough 2023.

Dan Clancy - Twitch CEO - said: “Over the last year, we’ve been working to build a more sustainable business so that Twitch will be here for the long run and throughout the year we have cut costs and made many decisions to be more efficient. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, it has become clear that our organization is still meaningfully larger than it needs to be given the size of our business … As with many other companies in the tech space, we are now sizing our organization based upon the current scale of our business and conservative predictions of how we expect to grow in the future.”
Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime and MGM Studios have also laid off some of their staff of up to several hundred people.
The layoff notice was sent out via email, with the letter stating the reason: reduced investment in certain sectors of the company.
The company is retaining compensation, a temporary stipend and external support for each employee.
