WhatsApp is now allowing users to pin up to three messages in a chat and keep them for varying periods of time.
A lot of important information is shared within various messaging apps. Pinning this information makes it easily accessible once you open the chat – it's the first thing that pops up and saves users time scrolling through the whole conversation.
With this in mind, Meta already provided WhatsApp users with an update that allows them to pin messages back in December. Now, multiple messages can be pinned in single and group chats.
Pinned messages on WhatsApp
Once you pin a message in a WhatsApp chat, it will stay at the top of the chat as a banner. You can select the duration of the pin between 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days.
Notably, you can unpin a message anytime you want. You can tap on the pinned message banner to navigate to the message in the chat.
Once you pin more than one message, the banner showcases the number of messages pinned. The most recent pinned message will appear first in the banner. You can see the next pinned message by tapping the banner.
Notably, while either party can pin a message in a 1:1 WhatsApp chat, group admins hold control over who is allowed to pin messages in a group chat.
How to pin / unpin a message
• Step 1: Tap and hold the message you want to pin
• Step 2: Tap more options and select “Pin”
• Step 3: Choose the pin duration (24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days) and confirm
This method works on both Android and iOS. The procedure to unpin a message before the set duration is also simple. You just need to tap and hold the message, select Unpin, and confirm.
WhatsApp was spotted developing the feature in its Android beta application. Earlier this month, it allowed some beta testers to try out the new feature.
