TikTok users can now downvote comments

TikTok has now rolled out its downvote feature to all users, allowing viewers to flag comments they deem to be harmful or inappropriate.

The downvote option, represented by a thumbs-down icon, will be displayed to the right of the like button next to comments on videos. The feature is designed to help TikTok identify and remove harmful content from the platform.

The launch of the feature comes after TikTok conducted several tests and trials, the earliest of which took place back in 2020.

Unlike other platforms like Reddit, downvote numbers on comments won’t be visible to the public. However, the data will give the platform’s moderators an immediate insight into what kind of content is being flagged, allowing them to remove it quickly and put measures in place to limit it in the future.

Speaking about the feature in April of this year TikTok said: “This community feedback will add to the range of factors we already use to help keep the comment section consistently relevant and a place for genuine engagement. To avoid creating ill-feeling between community members or demoralizing creators, only the person who registered a dislike on a comment will be able to see that they have done so.”

Recently, TikTok launched its new TikTok Now feature, in an attempt to emulate the success of the emerging platform BeReal.
